ACT place in W-League 'important'

20/07/2008 10:29:00 AM
ANU pulled off a huge 3-0 upset over Canberra City to record its first win of the Capital Football women's premier league at Hawker Oval yesterday.

After three draws and six losses for the season, goals to Danielle Noble, Bronwyn Tulloh and Kiz Burtenshaw handed ANU its first victory.

City had recorded four straight wins before yesterday but ANU quickly unravelled its confidence in the first game back after a two-week break.

ANU went to half-time leading 2-0, before sealing the match with a late goal from an indirect free kick.

''It was great to finally see the hard work that the team is putting in actually coming through in the score,'' ANU coach Kath St Laurent said.

The win lifts ANU off the bottom of the ladder, the finals now a slim hope.
